Savings goal calculator

Turn a financial goal into a timeline.

See when you could reach your target and how a different monthly contribution changes the date.

How it works

A goal becomes useful when it has a number and a rhythm.

The calculator grows your current savings and adds a contribution each month until the target is reached. The estimate assumes a constant return and does not account for taxes, fees or market volatility.

Formula

Next-month balance = current balance × (1 + monthly return) + contribution

The calculation uses the values you enter and assumes the selected rates remain constant throughout the scenario.

Worked example

A $50,000 target, $7,500 already saved and a $750 monthly contribution produce an estimated date. Adjust the contribution to see how the timeline responds.

Start with a specific target

Name the amount required for the home, freedom fund, investment or major decision you are planning.

Test the contribution

A sustainable monthly amount is more useful than an ambitious plan you cannot maintain.

Review the date

Update the goal as your balance, priorities and financial life change.

Frequently asked questions

How to interpret the result

Is the result a prediction?

No. It is a transparent scenario based on your inputs. Returns, inflation, spending and personal circumstances can all develop differently.

How often should I update the calculation?

After a major financial change and at least a few times a year. For long-term decisions, consistent updates matter more than a one-time perfect estimate.

Does this calculator store my numbers?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. If you want history and a recurring monthly view, you can manage your figures inside Hugo.
